Safety Side Up is a proud Authorized Provider of American Heart Association and EMS Safety's CPR/First Aid/AED programs and certifications. In addition, we also provide youth safety courses such as Babysitter Training and At Home Alone.

Classes are currently held regularly at two N/NE Portland locations:

Family and Friends CPR

American Heart Associations's Family & Friends CPR Course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult/child and infant CPR, AED use and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. 

Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job.

This course consists of a mix of lecture, group discussion and hands-on practice which covers: safe job search, resumes, interviewing, professionalism, preparing for a job, decision-making, problem-solving, child development/ages and stages, age-appropriate activities, clear and constructive communication (with adults and children), dealing with difficult situations, basic care (diapering, toileting, feeding, burping, etc.), safety in and outside of the home/in the community, how to get help in an emergency, basic first aid (infant/child/adult conscious choking and bandaging).

The course will cover the lifesaving skills of how to prevent, respond to and get help and administer care in a variety of emergencies, including child CPR, child AED use, infant CPR and relief of choking in a child and infant, indoor/outdoor safety, playground safety, water safety, bandaging, Epi-Pen use and more. Thorough coverage of preventing emergencies and common safety dilemmas while babysitting will also take place. Participants receive student workbook and upon successful completion; American Heart Association 2-year CPR/First Aid certification.

This popular entertaining workshop, recommended for ages 8 and up is designed to prepare children to look after themselves during times adult supervision is unavailable. Important skills are learned through interactive lessons and role play that help understand their including their rights and responsibilities when at home alone to increase their prevention and awareness, as well as problem-solving skills, as well as keep constructively occupied, making both you and your child more confident when they are at home or in the community alone.
